Waldemar Borth Finds “Random” Humor in the Brand Film

Channeling his many years creating corporate brand films, motion designer/AD Waldemar Borth takes a satirical poke at the tropes of the genre by fusing his design and post experience with an array of AI tools.

Waldemar Borth: “I wanted to try out the text to image and image to video AI workflow but I didn’t want to just create a ton of clips without a narrative. Since there are already enough AI sci-fi trailers, I wanted to do a project that might also be a project in my everyday client work.

“So I decided to create a fictional company called Random (including the branding) and make a brand film that is full of cliched and awful corporate phrases.

“Since there are already enough AI sci-fi trailers, I wanted to do a project that might also be a project in my everyday client work.”

“Because I have done a lot of corporate work in my 15+ years of being in the business, the script was written quickly. It´s supposed to be a fun ride with subtle humor without being too silly and losing the overall corporate feeling.

“What I didn’t expect was so many things that needed to be fixed and modified in the AI generated imagery. So the classic post production part was a challenge. This is actually a plus because, as someone who had full-time positions at two post production houses, this means that my skills are still needed.

“For example, the beams of data in the city were tricky when it comes to 3D tracking because AI is interpreting the geometry of buildings but there is no information about the focal length. So a lot of trial and error had to be done.”
