Damien Bastelica, director and co-founder at Super Dope in Portland, OR, indulges his love of coming-of-age stories and strong female characters in the studio’s latest animated short film “In Love”.
Christine Kim, Super Dope co-founder/ECD: “Although Super Dope is a commercial animation studio, we are also passionate about producing our own content. Our aim is to create projects that not only captivate the viewer but also stay with them, making a lasting impact, be it visually or conceptually.
“‘In Love’ started as a series of animation exercises, but soon transformed into something much more as Damien discovered he was subconsciously weaving a tale of love in the modern world.
“The biggest challenge in bringing this film to life was animating the camera moves where the characters soar through the air. To ensure accuracy and maintain proper proportions, we used a 3D camera and model as a reference during the animatic. The result is a magical display of the characters gliding through the sky capturing that feeling of falling In Love.”
