Buenos Aires director/animator Gabriel H Fermanelli just dropped us this giddy exercise in low-res character design and animation inspired by the point and click games of the nineties like Zak McKracken and Alien Mindbenders.
Gabriel H Fermanelli: “This is a concept trailer done in my free time where I tried to play with the conventions of the point and click genre, making things that you don’t usually see in this kind of game.
“The translation from pencil to pixel is a kind of challenge because you need to play with the limitations. The most difficult part is making the animation smooth because sometimes you need to resolve everything with three or four pixels, so it is hard to make the subtle movements.
“The project was developed in the beginning in desktop Photoshop but later I started to use the iPad. I used Procreate for rough animation and Aseprite for the final with After Effects for compositing. All the video was made in a real low resolution 211×119 pixels.”
