In stark contrast to the optimistic tone of their recent WWF spot, the animation crew at BluBlu Studio craft a dark and enigmatic trailer for Airhead, the atmospheric puzzle-platformer from Handy Games and Danish developer Octato.
Jed Skrzypczyk, director at BluBlu: “The creators of Airhead set out to depict a world that is inaccessible and severe yet magical and compelling. Handy Games made the point very clear to us in the brief, ‘create an animation that extends the game’s visual universe. Let it be yours, different, but let it faithfully reflect the reality of the game.’
“The character design was developed by Handy Games and Octato – our job was to give them another life in animation. Despite being attached to the style of their game, the client allowed us to interpret these characters in our own way.”
“The setting of Airhead is a mesmerizing mix of mystery, and beauty. The first moments with our animation (and the game) take us into caves where very peculiar, head-like plants called Airhearts grow. The character design was developed by Handy Games and Octato – our job was to give them another life in animation. Despite being attached to the style of their game, the client allowed us to interpret these characters in our own way.
“The animation also has no shortage of antagonists. First, there are the explorers, who unreflectively use the natural resources of the planet. By showing their huge silhouettes towering over Airheart, we wanted to clearly emphasize what role they play in our story. The second negative character is the merciless machine The Collector. Our goal was to show its unrelenting persistence and brutality.”
