The crew at SoCal motion design studio Stylo Creative weaves metallurgy and embroidery into a richly detailed CG launch film for Nike’s opening day Gold Edition LA Dodgers’ jersey commemorating the team’s World Series win.
Dillon Hutchins, ECD at Stylo Creative: “We were entrusted with crafting a film that honored the prestige of the Commissioner’s Trophy, the triumph of the championship, and the energy of the city — all embodied in this exclusive jersey. Our goal was to create a piece that captivates from start to finish.
“One of the biggest hurdles was time. We had just three weeks to complete the film and all deliverables — less than half the time we typically require for a project of this scale. We had to be incredibly efficient in our R&D, quickly finding ways to optimize our workflow without compromising quality.

“The key creative and technical challenge was transferring the gold from the trophy onto the jersey. We wanted this transformation to feel fresh and magical but it was complex because the jersey’s decals were material-based while the gold was simulated geometry. Since there was no straightforward way to seamlessly blend these two elements, we had to rethink every detail of the system down to the hierarchy of nodes.
“Additionally, in the weaving shots, the jersey is constructed entirely from individual threads, replicating how it’s made in real life. Achieving this required intricate systems, advanced trigonometry, and extensive optimization. Even the Nike swoosh had a dedicated system to ensure the threads followed its exact embroidered angle.
“Similar to the gold, these weaving shots had to transition seamlessly into others where jersey details were created through textures — without revealing the fundamental differences between the two techniques. Ultimately, every challenge pushed us to innovate, refine our process, and create something special.”
