Passion Pictures’ directing/animation team Future Power Station merge 2D animation with 3D motion capture to transform Norwegian triathletes Gustav Iden and Kristian Blummenfelt into Viking warriors in new work for Swiss sportswear brand On.
From the team at Passion: “In On’s latest campaign (which draws inspiration from 1990’s Batman and Robin cartoons), ‘Kristian the Unstoppable’ (Ironman World Champion Kristian Blummenfelt) and ‘Gustav the Great’ (Olympic Champion Gustav Iden) embark on an epic animated adventure as they race against deities and mythical creatures.
Future Power Station director Yibi Hu: “[CD] Simon Brotherson and I had a long chat about how Gustav and Kristian race, their personalities, and their swimming, cycling, and running styles. We wanted to reflect a true triathlon, how athletes experience a race.
“During races, the audience has a completely different experience than the athletes. From the outside, it feels calm. But for the athletes, it can be pure chaos. And when you’re racing in truly spectacular surroundings, the mountains and trees around you seem to come alive – either helping you or trying to hold you back.”
