Writer/director/illustrator Danny Sangra takes a poke at the creative industrial complex (and makes his Stash debut) with this snappy two-minute animated parable about selling out and selling yourself short.
Danny Sangra: “The concept was one I knew everyone in the commercial world could understand. I think we get too wrapped up in the industry side of things and forget we can all be creative and have fun with it. Whenever I do talks or speak to students, I remind them to never forget why they started to draw or make things. It’s free and it’s expressive, you were exploring and it made you happy.

“The Orange and the Director characters were recorded during lock down but I sat on the audio for a couple of years until I began animating. However I couldn’t find the right voice for the cloud so I left it another year.
“I’m really particular about voices. If I meet someone with a voice I like, I tend to write something for them. I have a friend Mary-Ellen from Louisiana. She’s not an actor but I love her voice, so I asked her to play the the Cloud. I love working with non-actors and getting their performance to work.
“The design style is a nod to vintage animation with hand-painted backdrops and re-used backdrops. The music was composed by my longtime collaborator Jose Saudinos. The visuals are a mix of styles so I wanted the music to feel like the thread which tied it all together.”
