Juan Pablo Machado and Passion Paris Keep Family Close for Ronald McDonald Foundation

The Passion Paris animation team and director Juan Pablo Machado help mark the 30th anniversary of the Ronald McDonald Foundation with this poignant, atmospheric, and beautifully drafted film created thru TBWA Paris.

Juan Pablo Machado: “In this campaign, everything revolved around tone, both in the message’s form and in the color nuances. The intention was to adopt a distinctly original approach, breaking away from the usual conventions employed when addressing such a delicate theme.

“I was thrilled to be part of this project because it addresses an important subject with the ambition to treat it with sensitivity and poetry. From the outset, this film highlighted storytelling and artistic direction, making it an exciting creative adventure.”

From Passion Paris: “The agency envisioned a metaphorical narrative imbued with delicacy to illustrate the commitment of the Ronald McDonald Foundation, which, for the past 30 years, has dedicated itself to bringing families closer to their hospitalized children.

“In this campaign, everything revolved around tone, both in the message’s form and in the color nuances.”

“Influenced by Japanese animation, Juan’s artistic direction is characterized by elegant, detailed renderings. The backgrounds stand out with a mix of line work, textures, and subtle depth, while pastel and ethereal colors enhance the film’s dreamlike atmosphere.

“Diffuse lighting plays a crucial role, adding a certain softness, complemented by a night illuminated by the Milky Way and subtle light sources, such as the house and city lights. The diverse backgrounds, ranging from majestic mountains to urban environments, underscore the scope and epic nature of the journey.

The characters feature fine, detailed lines and expressive eyes that accurately and subtly capture each protagonist’s emotions, artfully supporting the narrative’s emotional depth. This artistic choice, dear to Juan, endows the characters with a profoundly endearing quality.

“The film was created using traditional 2D animation on TVPaint for the animation and Photoshop for the backgrounds, characters, and prints. We also utilized Blender for the 3D modeling of the house, applying a 2D rendering to ensure its harmonious integration into the film.”
