Inertia Studios Adjusts to the Alpine Trail for Marin Bikes

London’s Inertia Studios (whose love of outdoor CG adventures we’ve noted here and here), is back in the bush with a gripping product film for Marin Bikes highlighting the features and benefits of their Alpine Trail models.

Thomas Valente, director at Inertia: “Marin Bikes came to us with an innovative new product – an adjustable frame that allows the rider to change the geometry of the bike for varying terrains – and a design communication problem to solve; How can we educate beginner and expert mountain bike enthusiasts about the Alpine Trail whilst creating a piece of content that feels energizing, exciting, and elevates the brand?

“The biggest technical challenge was emulating the realistic movements of the bike. From frame pivots to suspension compressions, we spent a lot of time building a CG bike that behaved realistically.”

“Our approach was to put the frame front and center in an exhibition style space, positioning it as a state-of-the-art product, whilst using dynamic camera moves, curated motion, and simulation to clearly communicate the adjustability of the bike in an exciting way.

“The biggest technical challenge was emulating the realistic movements of the bike. From frame pivots to suspension compressions, we spent a lot of time building a CG bike that behaved realistically.

“Using Xpresso, Cinema 4D’s node based programming, together with advanced rigging techniques, we ensured the bike accurately adapts to the terrain beneath it, allowing us to create dynamic shots towards the climax of the film where the bike feels as though it’s riding through a forest.”
