Working with carte blanche from local distillery Saint-Esprit, the all-Annecy team of director/CG artist Guillaume Briet and Spacesheep studio highlight the modern-meets-traditional aura of the client’s artisanal pastis.

Guillaume Briet: “Traditionally, pastis is a liquor from the south of France, where the sun shines bright and summers are really hot. Saint-Esprit Distillery crafts Pastis here in Annecy, in the middle of the French Alps.

“The film had to show the duality of the product’s very specific recipe. Tradition on one side, with its very warm roots from the south of France, and extravagance with its unusual ingredients like génépi, a high altitude wild plant from the local mountains.

“That’s why the film intersects two opposite kinds of shots, flying bottles choreography and more static and orthogonal shots, a warm orange ambiance and colder motion design animations – both opposites suggest this specific alliance of flavors.

“Technically, the most difficult part was lighting the minimalistic bottle, without being too obvious or presenting the motion design in too distracting a way.”
