Although we never actually see them, I feel safe saying the three characters in Karl Poyzer and Joe Roberts’ new animated comedy “Floaters,” are some of the most endearing and clearly defined in recent memory.
Relying on a script by Roberts and the vocal skills of Rachel Stubbings (Whenever You’re Ready, GameFace), Daniel Hoffmann-Gill (Dolittle, Sherlock), and Jake Yapp (NewsWipe, The Now Show), delivers laughs solely with exterior shots of spaceships.
The film came about when Poyzer (a DOP in real life) took to learning Blender during the lockdown. Roberts then wrote a script based around “Karl’s artistic penchant for spaceships.”
The result is a four-minute charmer the pair call “Kitchen Sink Sci-Fi. A mundanely futuristic look at space travel in, or rather above, the UK in 2120”.
