After a stellar run on the festival circuit, Budapest director/animator Tamás Rebák just dropped us his animated grad film Escape Velocity, a space-bound allegory about letting go punctuated by a sweet-natured plot twist.
Tamás Rebák: “This is an animated short about an astronaut who must reach his space shuttle before a mysterious beast catches him. He has been chased by this creature for a long time, and the only way to break free is to leave this curious planet.
“The term ‘escape velocity’ refers to the minimum speed needed for an object to escape from the gravitational influence of a massive body. The title uses this technical term for good reason, it also symbolizes a final determination, which is a hard step to take.”
