Director Luciano A. Muñoz Sessarego guides Stash fans thru the challenges behind his film festival hit Freelance, a fabulous piece of CG character comedy produced in tight collaboration with Danish animation studio Tumblehead.

Luciano A. Muñoz Sessarego: “This is a project I developed on the side while working in the film and animation industry that deals with themes of resilience, professional frustration, mental health, and work ethic.

“During the production, we faced several difficulties on the creative side, my initial drive was to make a film I could do entirely myself – which drove a lot of decisions for the better, as constrains make you more creative.

“So being an animator and not knowing much about anything else, I wanted to have as few assets to create as possible, two characters and two environments and hopefully two minutes of film which sounded like a good idea, and it was.

“Another thing I focused on was that storytelling was everything and even though the animation was going to be very bubbly and wobbly, it had to be small. As I mentioned, I’m an animator and so I wanted to keep that part of the work to the minimum so I could focus on figuring out whatever else I didn’t know how to do.

“Lucky for me, these constrains helped shape a movie that was exciting to do and led to a collaboration with my good friends Magnus Møller and Peter Smith from Tumblehead. This collaboration was the solution for most technical and creative problems and made the film better in every way beyond my dreams.”
