Motion and concept designer João Vaz Oliveira in Lisbon: “I met David Carson in May this year at OFFF. He was already an influence on me, in terms of typography, texture, etc, but I never thought we would collaborate.
“GMUNK and Filipe Carvalho had invited me to participate in the 2022 OFFF opening titles and Carson really liked them. He contacted me at the end of September so we could work together. It was there, during that conversation, the idea of making a reel of his works came up.
“The biggest challenge was bringing still frames to life. After I agreed to collaborate I thought: “What now? How am I going to do this? A blank page…”
“The point is Carson’s work has lots of layers, colors, textures, and shapes, in short, it has a lot of life. So I decided to go looking for a music full of rhythm and I worked piece by piece, bringing them to life and putting them together like a puzzle.
“I think it’s fundamental in our life that we have fun with our work and that’s what I’ve always looked for. When I showed it to Carson he loved it. We felt like we are going to do other things together. So, stay tuned.”
