Creative director Mert Kızılay in Istanbul: “Since the market for title sequences is very weak in Turkey, we always consider creating them as passion projects.

“In return for the limited budget, the client gave us creative freedom. I presented a few concepts, and eventually, we decided to combine two of them.

“We used this quote as our creative guide: “Locals used to call them monsters. Unseen, haunting, they fall upon their homelands like a dark suffocating mist.”

“The key things that we wanted to achieve were; not showing the actual killers’ faces, not using any gore elements, creating a more psychological and eerie thrill. Hinting locations and some details which will be authentic to Turkey, and also presenting some subtle details about characters.

“Also we wanted to be very sensitive about our imagery, since this is a documentary about real happenings.

“But the core concept was to create these wide sceneries, having the killers as giants in the fog. Then at the end, we wanted to introduce many distorted faces to emphasize the mental aspect.

“Because of the limited budget, we combined different techniques. We did a lot of photography, we used some live-action, some 3D projection using the pictures we took. We also used some stock elements, 3D scans, and CGI.”
