São Paulo director/musician Patrick Hanser combines his many talents and Playground AI into a video for the first single from his music project Bacará, prompted with art styles from painters including Picasso, Kandinsky, and Miró.
Building on top of live-action performance footage of himself plus snippets of favorites like 2001: A Space Odyssey, Hanser says his objective with Bacará is to unite the film and music worlds.
Here’s a summary of his production process for the video extracted from the extensive interview on the always-excellent Director’s Notes:
Hanser: “So I edited all those [live-action] images together to create something dynamic, then made it 12FPS instead of 24FPS. After coloring and exporting the frames, I uploaded them to Playground AI and started the work of individually treating each one to achieve the result I wanted. In total, there are about 2,800 frames in the music video, but I created more than 10,000 to get to the final result. That’s why it took me six months.”
