From the release:
Scholar Co-Founder & Director William Campbell: “Anne is shaping the future of the East Coast studio and Scholar as a whole, by taking our NY operation to a new level. We could not have found a better fit with her strong leadership skills and stellar reputation. It’s an honor to be under one roof together.”
Anne Skopas puts creativity and culture first, and she will be bringing that eye of expertise to Scholar’s New York studio, honing their East Coast offering, trajectory, and creative talent to meet a rapidly morphing industry. Skopas joins Scholar after a tenure at Buck studios where she led the development of their design and animation department, and most recently Hornet, where she helped foster their talented director’s roster. Her next adventure will be leading Scholar New York.
When asked why Scholar? Anne had to say, “Scholar is so welcoming and I was inspired by the opportunity to shape an office, nurture the artists, and bring their ideas to life through my production experience. When you have the best talent in the world and you are still open to new ideas, that’s when you embrace the unexpected. It’s the collaborative nature of being heard and respecting others that leads to the most colorful portfolio of work. Scholar has that.”
The addition of Skopas signifies an evolution for Scholar, It marks a melding and a strengthening of their coastal teams and a commitment to a post-pandemic fluidity in their creative processes. According to LA Managing Director and Executive Producer Jo Arghiris, “to have a strong, experienced leader who also knows the value of putting time and energy into shaping the philosophy and ethos of a company, it’s incredible.”
Scholar is a collective of storytellers who are masters of medium, with expertise ranging from animation and CG to live-action, and with over 27 years in the industry, Skopas is a virtuoso between collaborating with creative teams and executing for clients.
Co-Founder and Director Will Johnson puts it best, “Anne exudes a calm confidence in everything she does, it grounds the people around her, and it’s that spirit that will be so foundational for us on the East Coast.” Skopas’ background spans everything from live-action production and traditional animation to diverse and varied mediums like real-time animation, experiential media, long-form storytelling, augmented and virtual reality, as well as pro bono work bringing awareness to global, social, and humanitarian causes. It’s that experience, combined with her passion for lasting relationships, that will allow Scholar to lean even further into the creative entropy that makes their studio so unique.
