LA director and visual innovator Brent Bonacorso (who created this stunner for Grimes during lockdown) tackles the intricacies of merging two icons of Americana in this spot for a Disney-themed trim level for Chevy.

Brent Bonacorso: “One of the unexpected challenges on this spot was working with Mickey; I wanted him running around, looking this way and that but Disney has very strict guidelines on what position Mickey’s head can be in (ever notice you never see him from the front?). So that had to be taken into account as I boarded the spot and chose locations for him.
 

“We actually had a Disney consultant for the entire project, even on the shoot, to make sure we kept Mickey from getting into trouble, and who knew a lot about what pixie dust should look like.”

 
“This had to be factored in when figuring out how he was going to appear in his various forms – shadows, lights on buildings, illuminated windows, etc., and how he would move from one location to another. We actually had a Disney consultant for the entire project, even on the shoot, to make sure we kept Mickey from getting into trouble, and who knew a lot about what pixie dust should look like.

“The film was shot in Shanghai, but the agency wanted a ‘European’ feel to the locations – a challenge, for sure. And one with a pretty unexpected solution; there’s a real estate development outside the city that replicates parts of France, Germany, and even Poland. It’s odd. But proved perfect for our shoot.”
