In April 2020, Grimes released “You’ll Miss Me When I’m Not Around” along with an invitation for fans to engage with the music video’s green screen backgrounds. Los Angeles director Brent Bonacorso took her up on the offer.

The result, completed by Bonacorso as a way to keep himself busy during the lockdown, is an ambitious VFX opus that uses the original high res footage made available for download when the project was released.

Dedicated fans and (Tesla nerds) will notice the reference at the end of the video to “X Æ A-12”, the name Grimes and Elon Musk bestowed on their child, born soon after the original video landed.
