In their trailer for the 2024 edition of Motion Plus Design Tokyo, founder/director Keyvan Nourian and his crew at Studio River in Paris use CG to build an abstract take on the question of the moment: How will AI change the creative profession?
Keyvan Nourian: “Every year, Motion Plus Design returns to Tokyo and every year Kook Ewo and his team announce the event with a fast-paced trailer that offers a glimpse of the talent of the speakers. This year, Kook and I decided to build an opener with its own identity. While playing the trailer card and its criteria (date, location and sponsors), we introduced a personal bit of storytelling.
“Our theme would be artificial intelligence and raise the question of how we feel about this new reality. We have chosen to imagine the creative entity of the future, a kind of humanoid combining AI technologies with the organic perfection of the human brain.
“AI is now omnipresent, and its performance is constantly increasing. So what form will the creative profession take in the years to come? Are we to evolve and deal with this new situation, or must we fight it at all costs?”
“The idea stems from a rather obvious observation: AI is now omnipresent, and its performance is constantly increasing. So what form will the creative profession take in the years to come? Are we to evolve and deal with this new situation, or must we fight it at all costs?
“The big challenges we faced were essentially related to timing. We worked on this film when we could between commissioned projects. In short, we didn’t have much time and we wanted to create a dynamic film with a strong rhythm. And even though the film was initially only supposed to last a minute, we couldn’t manage to generate the desired emotion in such a short format.
“That’s why we chose to compose our own music. It gave us the opportunity to better manage the highlights, but also to have real leeway when it came to editing.”
