Weightless & Minimal: Hup.Studio Launches the COSMO Sofa

CD duo Romina Giarrizzo and Marco Salemi at Milan motion house Hup.Studio just dropped us this elegant exercise in lighting and texture showcasing the COSMO sofa system for designer Philippe Tabet and Italian furniture brand Et al.

Romina Giarrizzo and Marco Salemi: “Our goal with this film was to capture a new atmosphere – integrating the concept of dynamic lights, materials and comfort, we created a unique ambiance in which different pieces of the sofa move as if floating in the cosmos.

“By using slow and fluid movements, we evoked a sense of floating, reinforcing the cosmic theme without losing the product’s tangible presence.”

“The film needed to reflect a dynamic yet elegant visual narrative so we created an environment where the furniture felt weightless, as if suspended in space, while maintaining a sense of realism to ensure the sofa felt both organic and controlled. By using slow and fluid movements, we evoked a sense of floating, reinforcing the cosmic theme without losing the product’s tangible presence.

“From a technical perspective, lighting and material rendering posed significant challenges. We wanted to integrate dynamic illumination that interacted naturally with the sofa’s surfaces, enhancing the textures and emphasizing its shape. Our aim was to transition from luminous scenes to deep, almost black shadows, mirroring the vast contrasts of space.”
