From the release:
Independent creative studio The Embassy welcomes Steve Woo as Head of Studio who will play a key role in the studio’s expansion into Europe.
Steve began his career producing and directing features, TV, and commercials, while always holding VFX as a passion of his. In 2004, he started a VFX studio in Taiwan and was later hired as Head of Studio in China by Digital Domain, helping to manage their global studios. Eventually, he moved to Digital Domain’s Vancouver studio, and more recently to Netflix-owned Scanline VFX.
Steve now joins The Embassy at a key time of expansion with top-tier advertising work for the likes of Academy Award winner Robert Stromberg, and the upcoming VFX on the Paramount/Disney+ series ‘The Spiderwick Chronicles’. As Head of Studio, Steve will be facilitating its growth into Europe, with outposts in Spain and Nordic Europe coming soon.
Steve Woo comments, “When the opportunity for Head of Studio at The Embassy came up it was a full circle moment for me. All the way back in 2004, I was inspired by its transforming car commercial for Citroën, and shared it with my then team, saying ‘this is the level we need to strive for. Whoever did this is awesome and I hope one day we’ll work together.’”
He adds, “The Embassy’s quality of work, from high-end commercials to feature and episodic, is amazing. You can see that this team is versatile and talented, and these are the kinds of people I love to work with. Their genuine care for work-life balance is the icing on the cake.”
Winston Helgason, EP and President of The Embassy, comments, “Steve is the ideal fit for The Embassy in this period of expansion. His past experience running two Digital Domain studios is essential to managing this growth effectively and planning the combined pipeline across three locations in the near future.”
He adds, “I brought Steve on to help me handle the day to day operations at The Embassy and allow for more focus on business development, expansion, and sales. We’ve grown by over 30% in Vancouver since 2020, and our next two offices will triple our artist capacity over the coming three years. Steve will be helping to manage this growth while upholding the world class work we’ve been known for over our 20 year history.”
