A machine to help reduce the 46 million tons of household food wasted each year is obviously a great thing but how do you elevate this merger of vacuum pump, gas injection, and lithium batteries into an object beyond its technology?
Jesus Suarez, AD and 3D artist in Orlando, FL: “SAES Group is a science material company that pioneers advanced material applications to enable the preservation of planet Earth.
“Nebula is a kitchen device in which industrial high vacuum and Modified Atmosphere Packaging technologies are miniaturized. It is the first consumer product developed by SAES group.
“The SAES Design House wanted a video to introduce Nebula to the world while not being too precious about its technical attributes. Low key lighting, a focus on materials, abstract metaphors and an edit that flows while keeping the viewer engaged was key.
“The video was a challenge mainly because I completed the concept, art direction, design, and animation in 25 days so I had to be methodical about production and render times as well as turnarounds and client feedback.
“The particle animation was especially challenging since we wanted to represent the gasses used in the product in an abstract way, so I made an abstract particulate world where the two sources of gas create negative space and the gas has a lot of texture but still behaves like a gas.
“The product was modeled in Rhinoceros 3D, post-processing of 3D assets were done in Cinema 4D as well as the animation and lighting, with rendering handled in Redshift. All the post effects and graphics animations were done in After Effects.”
