Pixel Farm studio in Minneapolis gives a shout-out to the magic of multiple twos on Feb 2, 2022, (auspicious in both the Chinese calendar and numerology) with an in-house project built around a digital art gallery.
Art director Adam Dargan at Pixel Farm: “This was a great way for the team to flex our creative and technical abilities. We took inspiration from brutalist architecture and the cinematography of Roger Deakins, especially his wide-angle compositions and camera work in Blade Runner 2049.
“The process started with concepting, storyboards, and style frame development. We then grey-boxed our scenes and began to build out our 3D environments. Our design team developed all of the two designs for the flat-art gallery and neon sign spaces.
“Our 3D team handled all of the modeling, animation, and rendering in Maya and Redshift. We also created a tool that would convert an SVG file to geometry for each neon sign. Once we were happy with the edit our audio team brought the visuals to life with their score and sound design.
“Now we’re looking forward to 3/3/33!”
