The one and only Pictoplasma, aka the creative center of the character design universe, returns to New York for its ninth NYC edition this fall, taking over the SVA Theatre on West 23rd Street – October 26 and 27th.
Presenting today’s freshest character-focused talent, Pictoplasma presents a wild mix of media, tools, and disciplines, and features artists pushing the boundaries of identity, narrative, representation, and aesthetics from illustration to animation, interactive, game and toy design, to urban and graphic arts.
In addition, Pictoplasma NYC presents a feature film-length selection of over twenty animated shorts and experimental narrations exploring themes that range across cultural identity, social anxiety, play, and psychedelia. The program features the latest generation of characters in motion, including works by Felix Colgrave, Renee French, Joe Cappa, and Encyclopedia Pictura.
Organized in partnership with the School of Visual Arts (SVA), the event premieres two successful segments from the Berlin mothership: A portfolio review session invites attendees to book private face-time with illustration agents and industry representatives across animation production, advertising, and brand communication. Plus, a dozen attendees selected upon prior application get to take to the big stage and present their own work.
