Brooklyn visual artist and director Omar Jones teams with the UK’s master of hand-animated chaos RUFFMERCY on this 100-second visual rampage for American rapper Denzel Curry.
RUFFMERCY (aka Russ Murphy): “Omar approached me about helping him add some animation to the ‘SKED’ video he was putting together. He had already made one for Denzel’s previous track ‘Blood on My Nikez’ and was looking for a different approach.
“I had been following Omar’s work for a while (he always seems to pull great performances from the artists he directs). I also love Denzel’s originality and the beat on this is pretty heavy so I was really into being involved.
“There was a little back and forth with Omar fine tuning what the final look would be but this was cool as I could tell it was really important for Omar to make the video the best it could be.”
“Omar handed me a cut and let me do my thing and then after the first round of animation he gave me a little push to add more and develop Denzel into a more animated character. There was a little back and forth with Omar fine tuning what the final look would be but this was cool as I could tell it was really important for Omar to make the video the best it could be.
“Once I had added all my Parts Omar then went back into the video getting his hands dirty with some VFX work himself notably the moving train carriage effect with the Building behind Denzel Half way through. In the end I think we collaborated well on this and seems like the fans are into it as well which is always a bonus!”
