From the release:
NYC based mixed media production company, Hornet, announced that Hana Shimizu will be promoted to Managing Director / Executive Producer, and Alex Unick will join as a full-time Executive Producer.
Shimizu has been an integral part of the Hornet team for over a decade. She joined in 2004—only three years after Hornet was established—and quickly developed a reputation for her unparalleled hustle and coolheaded professionalism. After working as a producer at Hornet for five years, she took a brief hiatus as a freelance producer where she further refined her skill sets before returning to Hornet in 2015 as an Executive Producer. In the last four and a half
years, her indispensability to the company has only continued to solidify.
In April 2019, Alex Unick joined Hornet as a freelance EP. He brought with him a wealth of well-rounded industry experience, having worked at Psyop and Blacklist for 11 years, where he’d originally joined as an intern and very quickly leapfrogged through the ranks from Assistant Producer to Producer to Executive Producer for his final 2 years at the sister companies. In the end, Hornet deemed his work ethic too valuable (and his velvety Scottish brogue too easy on
the ears) to let him go.
In Shimizu’s new position as Managing Director, she will continue to assume her EP duties alongside Unick, but will also work in closer tandem with managing partners Michael Feder and Greg Bedard to take Hornet into the next phase of its evolution.
Feder had this to say of the promotion and team movement: “Hana is a shining example of someone succeeding at Hornet. She has become a key voice within the studio, and I am so pleased for her to take on this new role. In Alex, we have gained a wonderful new addition to the Team, and I fully expect excellent things from him in the years to come.”
