Hiroshi Takagishi Explores Organic Oddities in New Motion Art Installation

Tokyo-based director/designer Hiroshi Takagishi, whose striking Poem short film we published here, expands on his fascination with organic lifeforms in his new CG motion piece created for display at Museum 1 in Busan, South Korea.

Hiroshi Takagishi: “Odd is inspired by the contradictions of bizarre plant forms that reveal hidden regularities and beauty within seemingly chaotic nature. The Unique curves and protrusions of these bizarre plants suggest potential movement.

“The film is inspired by the contradictions of bizarre plant forms that reveal hidden regularities and beauty within seemingly chaotic nature.”

“I imagined the moments when these stationary plants are in motion and recreate it here as media art. Through this, the audience can experience the vitality of the plant and the beautiful forces of nature behind it.

“The creative challenge was to find, create, and animate the fluid movement hidden in the regular shapes of these plants. The technical challenge was to select a few real-life plants and model them without scanning to make them easier to animate and simulate. This was done procedurally using Houdini.”
