Marcelo Petrella and Vincent Wauters, partners at Fellow in Los Angeles: “Our friends at Callaway Golf were excited to advertise their new line of golf clubs, Big Bertha 21, designed to fix the slice on your average golf swing.
“In normal circumstances, that would mean we round up our crew and hit the golf course for a shoot. This is 2020, though, and shooting on location back in May was pretty much a no go.
“Taco Truck Creative reached out to us with the idea of telling this story with animation. The tricky aspect is that we needed to illustrate the golf swing accurately so the viewer could relate to it as a real golfer.
“We wanted to shoot live-action plates so we could rotoscope and keep the silhouettes and movements 100% authentic. We proposed a skeleton crew shoot in Fellow’s parking lot and got the green light.
“A week after the shoot we had an approved edit, and then the work started. The final spot is that same edit, carefully illustrated frame by frame over the next few weeks.”
