LOS ANGELES: May 2nd, 2019 – Electric Theatre Collective LA, the award-winning VFX studio, bolsters its creative firepower with the hiring of Martin Karlsson as Head of 2D. Electric has established itself as a leader in Visual Effects in both London and LA, consistently ranking amongst the top 3 VFX houses globally.
Martin joins from The Mill, where he spent the last 8 years working in both Los Angeles and London. During his time there Martin worked with acclaimed directors such as Alma Har’el, Fredrik Bond, Saam Farahmand, Warren Fu, and built up an impressive body of work that includes projects for Nike, Lexus, A Tribe Called Quest, Titanfall and the feature film ‘Honey Boy’, which premiered at Sundance in January 2019, and has since been picked up by Amazon. As a lead VFX artist, he has created visually stunning work such as Coca-Cola’s ‘The Wonder of Us’, Game of War ‘Unite the World’ and Marvel’s ‘Strike Force’ to name but a few.
Commenting on his appointment, Martin said: “What really resonates with this new opportunity is the culture that I’m entering. This independent entity is truly driven by a passion for the visual medium and the magic curated behind the scenes. I have closely tracked Electric’s progression from the get-go and admired the company’s ambition of striving for artistic excellence with a huge portion of personality. What brings me huge gratification is seeing people develop and grow into new, bigger shoes, and I’m looking forward to help drive that within Electric.”
Tiffani Manabat, MD of Electric Theatre Collective LA said: ‘Unearthing the right talent for our studio isn’t an easy task.. It’s all about finding the right person whose values align with Electric’s. In Martin, we’ve found that. As well as being a fantastic artist, he really understands the importance of leadership and mentoring, and he’s excited to jump in. We’re so happy he’s joined the team. Electric is stronger because of it.”
“I’ve known Martin for a long time now and have huge respect for him as an artist and a person. He’s smart, talented, focussed, with a sharp dry wit. I’m so pleased our paths have finally crossed. He’s going to play a big part in Electric’s creative force moving forward.” Giles Cheetham, Partner, and VFX Artist, Electric Theatre Collective.
