Joyrider director Reuben Sutherland combines analog and digital animation techniques to push the concept of low-res to the breaking point in this frenetic yet mesmerizing video for German electronic duo Ducks!.
Spencer Friend, EP at Joyrider in London: “The idea was to create the look of a quasi stop-frame pixelation, using literal interpretations of the lyrics to create graphic-rich scenes.
“Some of the images were printed, cut out, and photographed with some stop-frame movement. These were then combined with digital images in Photoshop to give the pixelated look. All images and sequences were then moved across to After Effects and animated with a final uniform look.
“In an age of ultra-high definition, Reuben wanted to create a colorful and dynamic video that treats our pixel friends as a rare commodity! Look out for the black cat guitar solo at the end.”
