VFX shop Artjail and Reset director Henry Scholfield let loose in a spectacular manner for this over-the-top ode to the transformative powers of Doritos – a mad mix of 2D, CG, 360, motion design, and matte painting.
Artjail owner and ECD Steve Mottershead: “From the initial creative and technical planning to pre-viz, shoot supervision, and VFX execution, Doritos was a constantly challenging project.
“One of the biggest hurdles was translating and executing the multitude of ideas that Henry was throwing our way. There are a staggering number of details packed into these 30 seconds, many of which evolved and emerged along the way.
Artjail head of 2D Lee Towndrow: “We love how many disparate cultural references Henry is able to tap and make fit – aesthetics from the ’70s, ’90s, 2000s on up to 2050 are all in the mix.
“For the coda, which called for an entire future city, replete with flying cars, we referenced Bladerunner and Alita, two of our favorite films.”
Artjail senior FX artist Mark Ingle: “The creative workflow was unique in that it allowed many different interpretations of the glitch effects. A procedural approach in Houdini gave us the opportunity to quickly explore dozens of glitch styles in a short timeframe.”
