From the release:
No. 8, a new creative sound and vision studio encompassing a new cutting-edge visual effects offering and sound design house Scramble Soho has been launched by the team behind Big Buoy.
No. 8 will be led by creative director Jim Allen, the former managing director at Big Buoy, and Barny Wright, Scramble Soho’s managing director and former head of production at Big Buoy.
No. 8 aims to simplify the post-production process by offering best-in-class multi-disciplinary services through a single point of contact. Clients will be serviced by a dedicated team across all post disciplines – editing, audio, music, colour grading, VFX, animation and CGI – to ensure more creative interaction between sound and vision.
No. 8 has already forged partnerships with other specialist boutique companies, including colour specialists Cheat and CGI Studio Digital Golem.
Executive producer Tracey Gascoyne, the former head of production at Wave and Pure, producer Charlotte Shearsmith and flame artist Antonio Jimenez – both from Big Buoy – will also join the No. 8 team.
No. 8 is located in Scramble’s premises at 8, Portland Mews, from which the name derives. As well as Scramble’s sound facilities, No. 8 offers new flame suites, a grading suite and multipurpose studio rooms.
The new studio, which has just handled the VFX on Stormzy’s “Vossi Bop” promo, has also been working with clients including Rankin, Caviar, 72andSunny, Stink Studios and Iris. They have recently completed full-service work for Rolls Royce, Adidas, Axe, and McVitie’s amongst others.
Barny Wright, MD, No. 8: “We surround each project with the very best discipline leads across visual post, sound design and animation – all aligned to a common creative goal. We provide a single production team across all aspects of sound and vision, to make sure everything is continuously aligned to create beautiful work, every time, on time, and on budget.”
Jim Allen, Creative Director, No. 8: “I’m really excited at the creative possibilities from bringing sound and vision closer together. Traditionally these two disciplines have worked quite separately, by bringing them together at No. 8 enables us to get a great creative flow that will result in better, more imaginative work.
Toby Tomkins, MD and Colourist, Cheat: “Cheat is excited to be teaming up with No.8 to provide colour grading services and share our brilliant roster of colourists. We are delighted to work alongside their creative team and make work that is beautiful, captivating and powerful. The combination of specialist companies with unified workflows and project management promises to combine the creative benefits of specialist companies with the ease of one-stop-shop project management.
We hope that this new co-operative will become recognised as the next frontier in post-production creativity”
