Enter the Perfectly Strange World of Sasha Svirsky’s “My Galactic Twin Galaction” Short Film

Russian director/artist Sasha Svirsky, who originally graduated as a painter and then taught himself animation, just released his wonderfully eccentric, multi-award-winning short film “My Galactic Twin Galaction” online.

The combination of a non-stop barrage of manic collages, child-like character animation, acrobatic music and sound (by Alexey Prosvirnin) and the director’s stream-of-consciousness narration creates a fully surreal and smile-inducing experience.

Svirsky describes the film as: “Good and evil, utopia and dystopia, narrative and post-narrative collide in a mortal battle to entertain the audience.”

An additional note from the director: “At the beginning of the film, you can see a red dot. There is supposed to be the State logo showing that we have got finance for the film production from the Russian Ministry of Culture.

“We don’t want to pretend that it wasn’t there before. It was, and following the contract, we must keep it there. But after the mad Russian military invasion of Ukraine, we don’t want to spread this criminal sign anymore. We don’t want to promote a state that kills Ukrainians and persecutes Russians for speaking out against the war.”
