From the release:
For the release of the game Endling: Extinction is Forever, game publisher HandyGames asked Joël Durand and Passion Paris to direct its first video game trailer. Developed by Herobeat Studios, Endling explores what life is like for a vixen and her cubs on an Earth left in post-apocalyptic chaos.
Director Joël Durand: “Today, everyone is concerned about the environment, or at the very least cannot ignore the subject. And I found it stimulating to work on a game that covers these current issues. The environmental topic is very intelligently broached by covering the survival of wild animals. We bring to life a vixen in the future whose cubs are the last survivors of their species.
“We had to present and reveal a polluted environment while at the same time illustrate the tension and what’s at stake for the scavenger who is aiming at the foxes with his rifle. Pretty quickly I got the idea of a sequence revolving around the character and started to do the storyboard for it.
“As for the technique used, that came later based on the 3D elements of the game we had at our disposal. And that 3D shot allowed us to create a link with Endling which is in 3D, while keeping the 2D aspect of the rest of the film.”
