Based in Shenyang, China, director/animator Koalaism adds to the emerging CG sub-genre of atmospheric semi-abandoned cityscapes in this personal work with thoughtful music and sound design by Box Of Toys Audio.
Koalaism: “What I want to express is quite simple, ‘learning to ignore things is one of the great paths to inner peace’.
All the scenes are quite simple, no Cyberpunk, no magnificent rendering, using the most purity scenes, to refresh the inner memory of, either our most familiar slice in life or childhood.
“I hope everyone could have a chance to deepen their heart, to pursue and find their own inner peace. Living in the crowd Vientiane city, with the settled heart in your own countryside, tranquil and peaceful.
“Last but not least, I would like to take this chance to highly appreciate Box of Toys Audio for their great efforts on the creating of the background music and sound effect, it’s really awesome.”
Chris Didlick at Box Of Toys in London: “Koalaism messaged us through Instagram saying that as a birthday gift to himself he was making a non-commercial animation and would we like to create the soundtrack for it. We were pretty flattered that someone from the other side of the world would reach out in that way.
“Our approach was to try to imbue a sense of immersive atmosphere and lure the viewer into this near-future world. The sound does not try to reach too far beyond our current reality and primarily serves to score the lonely journey of the protagonist.”
