Based in Santiago, Chile, Crinimo Studio makes their Stash debut with this collage work for Shirley, the Netflix drama about pioneering congresswoman Shirley Chisholm and her 1972 run for president of the United States.
Catalina Avila, EP at Crinimo Studio: “Our friends at Neko Studio approached us looking for a visually dynamic animation for their film. We, of course, said yes, as it was a fantastic opportunity to collaborate on something with so much impact in the history of the U.S.
“Neko’s directors, Gustavo Sánchez and Carlos Pierucci, began by turning the script into a storyboard that paid homage to vintage instructional cartoons while incorporating touches of humor.
“The biggest challenge for this project was definitely the timeline — we had just six weeks to complete a one-minute animation, from story boarding to final delivery, including revisions.”
“The biggest challenge for this project was definitely the timeline – we had just six weeks to complete a one-minute animation, from story boarding to final delivery, including revisions.
“Given the tight schedule, the storyboard needed to move quickly into production so Crinimo’s illustrators and animators could start their work. Once the client approved the storyboard, we created black-and-white style frames for each shot. After these were approved, we added color and moved on to animation.
“The Netflix marketing team played a big role in making this project work. Their openness and collaborative approach were essential plus they understood the tight timeline, consistently providing quick feedback and approvals.”
