Working with director/screenwriter Kelly Marcel, CD Karin Fong and the team at Imaginary Forces close out the Venom feature film trilogy with a “beastly parade” of corrupted creatures in this main-on-end title sequence.
Karin Fong: “Kelly knew from the start that she wanted to have fun with the symbiote take-over of various animals in these end titles. It’s a rousing celebration to close out the final film with lots of energy and punchy color. I mean, it’s Venom! So there’s really no such thing as too absurd.
“We wanted a mix of fierce and funny. So there’s a lion, as you might expect, but also a squirrel – which is a nod to Kelly’s pet. We also Venomized Tom Hardy’s dog, Blue. At one point we had an anteater, to play off its long tongue, but that didn’t make it in.

“We also thought about animals that we could tease out a bit… seeing the joey first, then seeing it in the pouch of the kangaroo, for instance. And if I’m to be totally honest, we cut down on the animals with fur and feathers which are more complex and would’ve jeopardized the very short schedule.
Another challenge was our liquids, which were inspired by the ones in the film – but stylized. Venom has a pretty distinctive glossy material, and in this film, he’s joined by other symbiotes in different colors. So it was about nodding to the existing fluid effects and palette but giving it more of a pop feel.
“Working with 3D liquid in a tight schedule always presents challenges, and the solutions came by being nimble. The artists worked between creating custom sims in Houdini and manipulating stock Alembic files in Cinema 4D to create this aesthetic. We also developed a custom shader in Cinema 4D to create a roiling effect that brought the symbiote animals to life.”
