If you’re in the mood for five minutes of sheer musical pandemonium, director and visual artist Alessandro Bavari’s latest short film (which should resonate with both Monty Python and Fellini fans) has you covered.

Alessandro Bavari: “The Cold Burning Show represents the natural evolution of a series of images entitled Circus Republic, which I began producing with AI tools about a year ago and initially designed for sale as NFTs.

“Having long observed the possibilities offered by AI technology for video production, but finding the results unsatisfactory and inadequate until recently, I came across several models that finally convinced me to undertake this project.

“With the exponential qualitative growth of these technologies in recent months, I decided to create a short film that prioritizes direction, storytelling, character expressiveness, credibility, and precise synchronization with the soundtrack.
 

“It was a personal challenge to understand how far one could go at this stage of development, trusting that the greater precision offered by the latest AI models would give me more control over the creative process.”

“To lay the foundation for the video, after countless tests and attempts, I first created the musical track, strictly in 4/3 time. I envisioned a rhythm and mood reminiscent of Balkan folk music, using, in this case, an AI model called Stable Audio.

“For the video component, I employed Hailuo AI Minimax, which I found to be versatile and powerful. After generating countless clips, I carefully selected and edited them in After Effects, ensuring the BPM of the track was synchronized with the movements of the characters. I also aimed for performances that were as realistic and natural as possible.

“Aiming to go beyond the countless videos seen online – visually compelling but often lacking in editing finesse or logical narrative structure – I sought to create something that demonstrates how AI technologies are beginning to enable the rigor of cinematic direction. While Cold Burning Show is relatively simple, it is built on a logical framework designed to tell a story.”
