Vancouver-based director/animator Henrique Barone, whose directing work and many collaborations we track here, leverages a lighthearted tone and a flurry of design styles to keep interest levels high in this TED-ed explainer.
Henrique Barone: “This witty and almost five-minute long lesson by USC research scholar Tejal Gala was the perfect ground to push my career towards directing more, managing projects longer than a loop for social media and teams bigger than only myself.
“Having a broad variation of the style for each section of the script would help keep the audience engaged and create an opportunity for me as a director to explore different design languages within the same film.”
“My main goal on this project was also my biggest challenge: to use lots of different art directions and still make a cohesive film. Having a broad variation of the style for each section of the script would help keep the audience engaged and create an opportunity for me as a director to explore different design languages within the same film.
“To help the art directors with this task, I created a color script to ensured everyone on the team used the same colors for our main character. This was pretty much the only real direction I gave them. Other than that, I was so excited to see them bringing their talent and visions to the spot and I was amazed by each of them!”
